Four wrestlers captured state titles, and five others medaled, as Brookfield once again proved to be a top-tier program. The Bulldogs finished second in the boys and girls team standings.
Peyton Parn won his fourth state title with a technical fall (19-4) in the 138-pound final. Peyton, who also won state titles at 113, 126 and 132, won his first three matches by fall. Devan Parn, the state champion at 175 in 2023, redeemed himself from last year's disappointing loss in the 190 finals, with a pin in the 190 title bout. Devan, whose route to the final included two pins and a 3-0 decision, conquered the same opponent, South Harrison's Mayson Edwards, he defeated in the semifinals a year ago. The Parns, both seniors, completed their seasons undefeated. Jayden Keller won her third straight crown, all at 110, by fall in 16 seconds. The highly decorated and nationally ranked junior won all her matches by pin and was undefeated for the season. Mya Sackrey finally topped the podium in her fourth trip to State, claiming the 155 crown by fall. Sackrey, who also won all her matches by pin and was only defeated once all season, finished 4th at 140 in 2023 and was 3rd at 155 last year. Jace Keller (3 pins at 126) was 2nd, and Ryder Techau (2 pins, tech fall, major decision at 132), and Kameron Perry (2 pins, tech fall, decision at 144) both were 5th for the Bulldogs, who scored 112.5 team points, finishing second to Centralia (198). Keller, a Freshman, Techau and Perry, both Juniors, and Weston Linscott (decision) a Sophomore, will undoubtedly return to State next season. Riley Howell (pin, 2 decisions) finished her outstanding career with her second straight silver medal at 140. Howell, who earlier in the season earned her 150th career win, is a four-time state medalist. Hadlye Sackrey (2 decisions, forfeit) was 4th at 125. Hadlye and Raylee King, both sophomores, will be back in 2026 for the Lady Dogs, who scored 94 points and were 2nd to Kearney (102) in the team standings for the third year in a row. -- Dennis Hughes

Brookfield's aspirations of an upset were short lived, as top-seeded Lexington cruised to a 74-52 victory in semifinal action of the Class 3 District 16 Boys Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs raced to a 10-2 lead, but the Minutemen responded with 13-1 run to end the first quarter and gradually pulled away to advance the district title game.
Hayden DeJong (5 rebounds, assist) scored 15 points, and Phoenix Jordan (5 rebounds, 2 treys, 2 blocks) added 14 points. Riley Hinckle (4 rebounds, 2 treys, 2 steals) had 10 points; Bryson Shoop (assist, steal) had eight points; Kendrell Carter (3 steals, 2 rebounds, assist) had three points; and Brayden Shoop (6 rebounds, 2 assists) chipped in two points for the Bulldogs, who concluding the season at 9-18. -- Dennis Hughes Brookfield's season came to a bitter end, as Carrollton rallied and escaped with 37-35 victory in the opening round of the Class 3 District 16 Girls Basketball Tournament.
The Lady Dogs led throughout much of the game, building a 25-17 lead late in the third quarter. However, ignited by a 10-0 run, the Lady Trojans took the lead for good. Brookfield kept the game close, coming to within 35-34 on a three by Greenlee McCollum with 16 seconds remaining. Carrollton added a free throw, and Jerzi Field's baseline trey rimmed out with 4.8 seconds to go. The Lady Trojans added another free throw for a 37-34 lead, but fouled on the rebounded second miss. The Lady Dogs pulled to within two points on Sam Sharp's first of two free throws. She missed the second, but Carrollton knocked the ball out of bounds, giving Brookfield a last chance shot with 1.3 seconds on the clock. However, McCollum's shot was blocked. Emma Meyer (3 rebounds, assist) drained four threes for a game-high 12 points, and McCollum (5 rebounds, assist) hit on three treys and had 11 points. Sam Sharp collected eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals to go along with five points, while Maggie Bennett (4 rebounds, steal) had four points, and Emree Littrell (3 rebounds, steal) chipped in a three-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs (8-18). -- Dennis Hughes Fueled by an 8-0 run, Brookfield overtook Carrollton and went on to a 54-47 win in the opening round of the Class 3 District 16 Championship.
Brookfield trailed throughout much of the contest, but Kendrell Carter's layup with 7:07 remaining put the Bulldogs up for good, 39-38. The Dogs converted on seven free throws down the stretch, four by Phoenix Jordan, to put the game away. Jordan (2 treys, 2 assists, steal) recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds - both game-highs, while Brayden Shoop (assist) added nine points and seven rebounds, and Hayden DeJong had eight points (2 treys), four assists and four rebounds. Riley Hinckle (2 treys, rebound) scored six points; Carter (3 rebounds, 3 assists, steal) had five points; and Bryson Shoop (2 assists, 2 steals, rebound) had four points for the Bulldogs (9-17), who play top-seeded Lexington in the semifinals. -- Dennis Hughes Blue Pride was on full display at the Class 1 District 3 Championships, and Brookfield will be sending six wrestlers to State. The Bulldogs (147 points) finished a solid second in the team standings behind Centralia (218) and ahead of Marceline (141.5), despite only fielding 10 wrestlers - four who are Freshmen.

Techau will be returning to State; he was 5th at 126 last year, The other three underclassmen are making their first trips to the Mizzou Arena. Freshman John Foster won two matches by fall at 120, finishing tied for 5th. -- Dennis Hughes Hayden DeJong's free throw with 10.2 seconds remaining proved to be the game winner, as Brookfield slipped past South Harrison, 59-58, in boys varsity basketball action. Following a South Harrison tying free throw seconds earlier, DeJong, who drained a baseline three moments earlier to give Brookfield a 58-57 lead, drove the length of the floor and appeared to hit a floater while drawing a foul. However, the call was made prior to the shot, sending DeJong to the line for a pair of free throws. He hit the first one, which proved to be enough, as South Harrison's final shot at the buzzer missed the mark.
DeJong (5 rebounds, 4 assists), who scored seven points in the deciding fourth quarter, finished with 10 points, while Phoenix Jordan (2 blocks, assist, steal) recorded a double-double with a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who watched South Harrison erase a nine-point Brookfield halftime advantage, knotting the contest at 47-47 at the end of the third quarter. Brookfield jumped out to a 17-8 first quarter lead and still led by six points at the half; however, South Harrison outscored the Lady Dogs by 20 points in the second half and cruised to victory. Maggie Bennett (6 rebounds, 2 assists, steal) led the Dogs with 12 points, and Greenlee McCollum (5 rebounds, assist, steal) added 10 points. Emree Littrell (6 rebounds, 2 assist, steal) scored eight points; Jerzi Fields (assist) had seven points; and Emma Sensenich (2 rebounds) and Kierstyn Sutch (rebound, steal) each chipped in four points for the Lady Dogs (7-18). -- Dennis Hughes Alex Bennett scored five points, and Brock McLaury added three points, as Brookfield beat South Harrison in an abbreviated JV contest, 14-10.

Undefeated Jayden Keller (41-0, 3 pins), Riley Howell (41-4, 3 pins, decision), and Mya Sackrey (41-1, 4 pins) won gold at the 110, 140 and 155 weight classes, respectively. Keller and Sackrey both won their title match by fall, while Howell won by a 2-1 decision with a tiebreaker in overtime. Sackrey and Howell, both seniors, are making their fourth trips to State, while Keller, a junior, is seeking her third straight state title. Raylee King (31-8, 2 pins) won silver at 100, and Hadlye Sackrey (3 pins, major decision) took bronze at 125. The five medalists will compete in the MSHSAA Class 1 State Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia on February 26th and 27th. Kaecen Brown ended her career with a pin at 130, while Lilly Lindsay earned two pins at 145, and Freshmen Mallory Black (pin) and Makenna Munsterman (decision) won matches in their first trip to Districts. -- Dennis Hughes Greenlee McCollum (4 rebounds, steal) scored eight points, and Sam Sharp collected nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals to go along with five points, as Brookfield upended Maysville, 37-31.

Brookfield dropped a 60-45 decision to Maysville in the nightcap. Phoenix Jordan (5 rebounds, 2 blocks, steal) netted 20 points for the second straight night for the Bulldogs, who led, 18-17, after the opening eight minutes, but were outscored 26-14 during the next two periods.
