Brookfield scored nine runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 13-3 win against Glasgow in yesterday's varsity diamond action. It was the Bulldogs fifth victory in a row, and seventh win in the past eight games.
The Bulldogs were held scoreless with just one hit in the first three innings, while the Yellow Jackets plated a run on a two-out RBI single in the 2nd. Brookfield came alive in the 4th. Three consecutive base hits scored one run, and four walks, an error, and a groundout led to six more runs. Riley Hinckle capped the scoring barrage, knocking in a pair with a single to center. The 'Dogs piled on in the 5th with a Bryson Shoop RBI sacrifice fly and error, and Peyton Parn followed three batters later with a bases clearing double to left, making the score 13-1. The Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin. Hinckle (2 RBI) and Gage Ludington (RBI, 2B, 2 runs) each had two hits, while Peyton Parn (4 RBI, 2B, BB, run), Colton Parn (RBI, 2 runs), and Hank Parks (RBI, run) had a hit apiece. Bryson Shoop (2 runs) had two RBI, and Trayce Switzer (3 BB, run), and Garret Wood (run, SB) each added an RBI. Ryder Techau (BB) scored twice. Hinckle earned the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He had two strikeouts. Clara Hoyt captured conference podium honors in two events in yesterday's Clarence Cannon Conference Meet at Monroe City. She ran a season best and personal record in the 1600, finishing 3rd, in a close sprint for 2nd, in 5:50.17, and she recorded a season best in the 3200, also finishing 3rd, in 13:19.38.
Kylin King was 5th in the 400 (1:04.7) and 6th in the 200 (29.05). Jayden Keller was 8th in a season best 29.42 in the 200 and was 9th in the 400, and Breckin Thudium had a season best heave in shot put (8.13m) and was 10th in discus. Maggie Bennett (8th - 100 Hurdles; 9th -300 Hurdles), Austin Lewis (8th - Long Jump), Lily Willis (9th - Javelin) and Lilly Lindsay (10th - Shot) also recorded top-10 results. The 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 finished 6th, 7th and 7th, respectively. Bridger Grimshaw was 4th in pole vault (3.2m) and 7th in the 300 hurdles, while Siope Pulu was 5th in javelin (39.86m) and 9th in shot put. Calvin Varner ran a season best in the 400 (1:02.97), and the 4x200 (1:41.61) and 4x400 (3:51.64) relay teams also ran season bests. Kameron Perry (7th - Triple Jump), Coldon Parrent (8th - 300 Hurdles), Wyatt Garber (8th - Triple Jump), Maksim Kerns (9th - Discus) and Aidden Buckner (10th - 100) collected top-10 finishes. The Bulldogs took advantage of Panthers' miscues in the first inning. Xavier Sada was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored when Westen Davis reached on a ground ball error. Davis later scored on a passed ball. Weston Linscott reached on an error and scored on Dayten Glasgow's double to left, while Glasgow came around and scored on an error. The Panthers scored three runs in the 2nd inning, drawing to within, 4-3, but the Bulldogs tacked on three runs in the third with no outs. Sada walked, stole second and scored on a passed ball. Davis singled and Ross Ehrich walked. Both were driven in by RBI base hits by Linscott and Glasgow. The Panthers scored a run in the third, but Sada fanned the final two batters, ending the game. The Panthers threatened first, as they loaded the bases via a base hit and two walks with no outs in the 2nd inning. However, they were caught stealing home twice on passed balls. The first did not bound away very far, and Peyton Parn made a great diving tag to get the runner. The Panthers were denied again when Parn retrieved and tossed to Garret Wood covering for the second out. Wood then fanned the next batter. Chaos then ensued when Glasgow stole third and Jordan stole second. A throwing error scored Glasgow, and a balk plated Jordan, and the Bulldogs led 2-1. The Panthers answered with two runs in the top of the third, but Brookfield answered. Nick Sharp led off with a walk and stole second. Ludington singled to left, driving in Sharp, and wound up on third on a two-base error. He later scored on another error. Peyton Parn followed with an RBI groundout. Gifted by a pair of errors and a groundout, the Panthers knotted the score at 2-2 in the next inning. The 'Dogs led off the bottom of the second with singles by Gage Ludington and Bryson Shoop.
