Sam Sharp won both the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, leading Brookfield at the Gerald Mansfield Invitational.
Sharp was also 4th in the 800, while Clara Hoyt was 3rd in the 1600, and 4th in the 3200. Piper Thudium was 5th in the 100, and 10th in long jump; Maggie Bennett was 8th in the 110 hurdles; Madalynn Williams was 9th in triple jump; Breckin Thudium was 9th in discus; and Holly Sensenich was 10th in the 400 for the Lady Dogs. Kameron Perry paced Brookfield's boys, finishing 5th in triple jump, while Bridger Grimshaw placed 6th in the 400, and 9th in pole vault, and Siope Pulu was 8th in shot, 9th in javelin and 9th in high jump. Wyatt Garber was 6th in triple jump; Coldon Parrent was 6th in the 100; Ryder Cochenour was 7th in the 400; Vann Duncan was 8th in the 110 hurdles and 10th in the 300 hurdles; Aidden Buckner was 8th in the 100; Damian Galloway was 8th in the 200; Alex Baldwin was 9th in the 1600; and Kendrell Carter was 10th in 110 hurdles. The Bulldogs 4x200 relay team placed 4th. -- Dennis Hughes Brookfield finished 4th out of 12 teams in boys golf action at the Kirksville Country Club.

The Bulldogs scored their lone run on Trayce Switzer's RBI single, scoring Westen Davis, who walked, in the 2nd inning. Brayden Shoop (2B, BB) and Riley Hinckle provided the other two hits for the Bulldogs (3-8). Dayten Galloway worked three walks, and John Foster also coaxed a free pass. -- Dennis Hughes Brookfield scored 365 as a team, finishing 11th out of 16 teams on a very tough Excelsior Springs Golf Course.

The Farm Management Team, consisting of Braxton Switzer, who was 7th in the individual event, Cooper Clarkson, Lilly Lindsay and Colton Howell placed 5th for Brookfield. Riley Howell, Emma Sensenich, Gracyn Gullick and Lanie Hill were State Degree Recipients (highest degree the state awards). Payslie Alexander, Kelsey Sparks, Braxton Swtizer, Cooper Clarkson and Lilly Lindsay were acknowledged as Group I Individuals (top 25% in respective contests), earning three college credit hours through Missouri State University. Other State Competitors last week included: Blayde Lindsay, Briar Montgomery, Ashley Haley, Riley Howell, Hunter Gray, Chase Burbank, Emmet Haley, and Colton Howell. -- Jennifer Dobrzenski Miranda Summers-Waggoner and Cooper Clarkson placed 4th in the Electric Vehicle competition at the Missouri State Science Olympiad Tournament.
-- Jennifer Pfeiff Damien Gunter placed 7th in Employability Skills at the National Career Development Conference in Indianapolis, IN. Gunter, who was 3rd at the Missouri CDC, competed against over 60 students from across the country.
-- Stephanie Berger, JAG Specialist Sam Sharp continued her dominance in the 3200-meter run, while a few other Bulldogs posted solid performances at the Gary Ewing Invitational.
Sharp won the 3200 in 11:42.52, having lapped the field by the time she crossed the finish line. She was also 2nd in the 1600, and 5th in the 800. Clara Hoyt was 4th in the 3200, and 7th in the 1600. Maggie Bennett was 4th in the 100 hurdles, while Piper Thudium and Breckin Thudium were 6th in the long jump and discus, respectively, and Holly Sensenich and Haven Stufflebean were 8th in triple jump and discus, respectively, for the Lady Dogs. Bridger Grimshaw was 7th in both pole vault, and the 400, and Wyatt Garber was 7th in triple jump. Dammian Glasgow and Calvin Varner were 8th in the 200 and 1600, respectively. The Bulldogs 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams also medaled, finishing 3rd in both events. -- Dennis Hughes Brookfield's seventh-inning rally fell short, as Milan held on for an 11-10 victory.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning and three more in the third. However, the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half on RBI groundouts by Riley Hinckle and Ross Ehrich in the bottom of the third. Milan responded with two runs, but Brookfield plated three to cut the margin to one run, 6-5 in the 4th. Brayden Shoop (3 BB, SB, 2 runs) walked with one out and stole second. Dayten Glasgow singled Shoop home and later scored on an RBI groundout by John Foster. Trayce Switzer (2 1B, HBP, 3 runs, RBI) singled, and scored on a single to center by Weston Linscott (1B, run, RBI). The Wildcats were held scoreless in the fifth, but tacked on four runs in the 6th and another in the 7th for a six-run cushion. The Bulldogs were not done, however. Ehrich (1B, HBP, run, RBI) reached on an error, but the next two batters recorded outs. A fly ball to left off the bat of Shoop appeared to be the final out, but it was misplayed into an error. Glasgow (2 1B, BB, SB, run, RBI) walked, and Foster (run, 2 RBI) also drew a free pass, scoring Ehrich. Switzer was plunked, plating Shoop, and Linscott reached on an error to score Glasgow. Hinckle (1B, 3 RBI) singled on a liner to center, scoring Foster and Switzer. Ehrich, who led off the inning, was hit by a pitch to reload the bases. But a strikeout snuffed out the rally, ending the game. Hinckle started on the mound and allowed just 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, while fanning 8 for the Bulldogs (3-7). -- Dennis Hughes |
