Mistakes again doomed Brookfield, as it dropped its fifth game in a row, falling to Carrollton, 7-1, in Thursday's varsity baseball action.
The Trojans scored four unearned runs, capitalizing on seven errors, four hit batters and three walks to go along with timely hitting. The Bulldogs have committed 25 errors through five games this season. The Trojans scored single runs in the first and third inning and added two in the fourth to lead 4-0. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, were set down in order in the first two frames, before threatening in the third. A single was wiped out by a caught stealing, and a pair of walks and a hit batter loaded the bases, but to no avail. The Bulldogs started the fourth with two singles, but both runners were stranded. The 'Dogs finally scored in the 6th. Hank Parks walked, and Riley Hinckle followed with a single. One out later, Garret Wood singled Parks home. Ross Ehrich then singled to load the bases, but the Trojans again extinguished the threat, remaining ahead 4-1. They put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, while the Bulldogs went down quietly in the seventh. Wood had two base hits and an RBI, and Parks (walk, run), Hinckle, Ehrich, Westen Davis, and Colton Parn (HBP) each collected singles. Trayce Switzer and Bryson Shoop each reached base by walk. Wood allowed just one earned run on two hits, while walking two and striking out three in three innings pitched. Hinckle allowed just two earned runs on five hits, while issuing just one free pass and fanning two in three innings of relief. The Bulldogs (0-5) and JV Bulldogs visit Marceline on Thursday.
