Brookfield dropped a pair of varsity baseball games last week, losing to Northeast (Cairo), 12-2 on Thursday, and falling to Centralia, 6-2, on Saturday.
Six hits and six walks paved the way for a 10-run third inning for the Bearcats, and the Bulldogs were unable to recover in their loss to Northeast. The Bulldogs managed a pair of runs in the fourth inning, when Hank Parks tripled home Peyton Parn, who got on by a walk, and Parks scored on a double by Riley Hinckle. Peyton Parn added a double to account for the 'Dogs three hits. Westen Davis coaxed a walk; Garret Wood and Bryson Shoop were both hit by pitches; and Colton Parn added a stolen base for the Bulldogs (0-3). After a solid pitching effort against Green City, Wood struggled on the mound, allowing nine earned runs, five hits, five walks and plunking two batters in 2.2 innings. Hinckle relieved, giving up two earned runs on two hits and three free passes. Both pitchers recorded a strikeout. The Bulldogs were staked to a 2-0 first-inning lead against Centralia. Colton Parn walked, stole second and third, and scored on an error. Peyton Parn also followed with a free pass and two stolen bases, scoring on a Hank Parks RBI groundout. After setting down the Panthers in order in the bottom of the frame, the Bulldogs were poised to pad their lead when Garret Wood hit a lead off double and Ryder Techau walked. Both then moved up with stolen bases; however, they were left stranded. The Bulldogs would not threaten again. The Panthers scored four runs in the third, with the help of sloppy defense and some good fortune. A three-base error, walk and passed ball put two Panthers in scoring position. A pair of groundouts plated both runners. The 'Dogs looked to get out of the inning without further damage, but the Panthers added two more runs with an inside-the-park home run to center. The Panthers scored on a steal of home in the fifth and tacked on an unearned run in the sixth. Garret Wood had half of the Bulldogs' four hits, adding a single to his double, while Trayce Switzer and Ross Ehrich each had a single. Westen Davis had a stolen base, and Colton Parn was hit by a pitch. Despite allowing three hits and issuing five walks, Colton Parn did not allow an earned run in three innings on the mound. Peyton Parn allowed just one earned run on three hits and two walks for the 'Dogs, who committed five errors. Peyton Parn fanned three batters in three innings of relief. Brookfield (0-4) travels to Carrollton tomorrow. Story by: Dennis Hughes
