Brookfield bounced back, following Friday's disappointing loss to the Thunder, outlasting Milan, 8-5, in Monday's varsity baseball matchup. It was the Bulldogs' third win in their last four games.
The Bulldogs got on the board first, as Gage Ludington's groundout scored Garret Wood, who singled to lead off the second and reached 2nd and 3rd on an error and passed ball. The 'Dogs added to their 1-0 lead in the 4th with a pair of runs. Westen Davis walked with one out and scored on Ryder Techau's double to right. Techau scored on Ludington's sacrifice fly. After being held in check through the first three innings, the Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the 4th. Colton Parn got a strike out, but the 'Cats then scored two runs on back-to-back errors. Parn prevented further damage with another punchout, keeping the 'Dogs lead at 3-2. Brookfield answered with three runs in the fifth. Colton Parn led off with a double and scored on Trayce Switzer's single to right. Switzer reached third on a stolen base and error, and Peyton Parn reached on third strike wild pitch, scoring Switzer, while Parn wound up at third on another error. Parn scored on Riley Hinckle's groundout. The Bulldogs tacked on two more runs in the 6th to go up, 8-2. Ludington and Bryson Shoop reached on one-out singles, and scored on a Colton Parn single base knock and a Switzer groundout. The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the sixth on three straight walks. A pair of singles and a walk plated three runs, but Peyton Parn ended the threat with a pickoff and strikeout. He set the 'Cats down in order with a pop-up and two strikeouts in the 7th. Colton Parn (SB) and Techau each had two hits - including a double, an RBI and run scored. Switzer (SB) and Ludington both collected two RBI, a hit and run. Wood (run) and Shoop (BB, run) also had a hit apiece. Peyton Parn (run, BB, SB) and Hinckle each added an RBI, while Davis had two walks and a run. Colton Parn picked up the win on the mound, allowing no earned runs on three hits and five walks and striking out six. Peyton Parn earned the save, giving up three earned runs on two hits and six walks, while fanning six. The Bulldogs (3-7) travel to Tri-County on Wednesday. Story by: Dennis Hughes
