Bulldogs Win in Double OT

Hayden DeJong drilled a three to force a second overtime, then scored six points in the second OT, as Brookfield held off Trenton, 72-69, in the opening round of the Milan Invitational Tournament.
Overtime seemed unlikely early on, as Brookfield led by 19 points midway through the second quarter. However, ignited by a 19-3 run, Trenton pulled to within three points, 37-34, at the half. Brookfield built a nine-point margin, 52-43, late in the third period, but Trenton chipped away, finally grabbing the lead late in the final 90 seconds. The teams swapped the lead until Phoenix Jordan's free throw tied the game, 59-59, in regulation.
Trenton appeared to be on its way to a win, until DeJong's three with .04 remaining in the first OT. Trenton went ahead 69-66 in the second OT, but a turnover and foul sent DeJong to the line where he made the first free throw. He missed the second, but Trenton again turned the ball over, and DeJong capitalized with a trey. He added a free throw with .29 left, and Trenton's two final shots were off the mark.
Riley Hinckle (3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals) pumped in a game-high and career high 28 points, including seven threes, and Jordan (2 threes, 2 assists, steal, block) recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds for Brookfield, which shot 11-of-26 from beyond the arc.
DeJong (5 rebounds, 2 steals), who was 1-of-14 from the floor before his late-game heroics, finished with 12 points and a game-high nine assists. Brayden Shoop (4 rebounds, 3 assists, steal) added six points, and Kendrell Carter (6 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists) chipped in a free throw for Brookfield (3-10), which faces the tournament's number one seed, Green City on Wednesday.
