Cooper Clarkson regrouped after a rough opening round, firing one of the lowest rounds on the second day to finish in top third of the field at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Boys Golf Championship. Clarkson followed a 95 on Day 1 with a final round of 80 to finish in a tie for 31st in the field of 92 golfers. Only six golfers bettered the junior's second-round score over the par-72 course at Smithville's Paradise Pointe Golf Complex.

Brookfield's Cooper Clarkson collected eight pars, firing an 83 in Friday's Class 2 District 4 Golf Tournament at the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lawson.
Clarkson got hot on the back nine of the par-72 course, rolling in six pars for a 39. Clarkson's sizzling finish propelled him to All-District honors and a spot in the Class 2 State Golf Championships at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithfield. The two-day event begins on May 13th. Lucky Poston carded a 120 for the Bulldogs. He carded nine pars, including three in a row and five of six on the back nine of Lawson's par-72 Hidden Valley Golf Course. Clarkson had seven pars on Chillicothe's par-72 Green Hills Golf Course the next day.
Lucky Poston shot a 109, Briar Montgomery a 110 and Jake Gladbach a 132 at Lawson. All three had a par for the Bulldogs, who finished 11th out of the 16 competing teams. Poston carded a 113, Montgomery a 129 and Gladbach a 131 at Chillicothe. The Bulldogs travel to Hannibal for today's CCC tournament. Blayde Lindsay carded a 119, and Cordray Baker and Matthew Taylor each shot 127 for Brookfield's JV team at Monday's Marceline Open.
