Ryder Cochenour won the 400 meter dash (1:02.55), and Vann Duncan won the 100 meter hurdles (17.14, SB), guiding the Brookfield Middle School Boys' track and field team to a fourth-place place team finish at yesterday's Marceline Open. They finished just behind third-place Milan (72) with 71.5 points. Cochenour helped record 26 team points, finishing 3rd in the 100 (13.46, 5th in long jump (4.64m) and anchoring the 2nd-place 4x100 relay team (53.52). It was the first meet in which the Bulldogs were able to field relay teams. Duncan helped earn 25 team points with a third in the pole vault (2.44m) and 6th in the 200, while running the second leg in the 4x400 relay (53.52). Jaxon Sibley (6th in the 100 in 13.86) and John Foster (5th in the 400 in 1:05.64 SB) were also part of the 4x100 relay squad. Deacon Brown was 2nd in the triple jump (10.51m), 6th in the 400 (1:05.85) and 7th in the long jump (4.39m) for 9.5 individual points, while Lewis Defries was fourth in both the 800 (2:38.61) and 1600 (5:54.35), both season bests for eight individual points. Both were members of the 4x400 relay team (Defries, Elijah Yates, Foster, Sibley) and 4x200 relay team (Brayden Grimshaw, Connor Allen, Ronnie Sharp, Brown), which finished 3rd (4:38.68) and 5th (1:59.32), respectively. In the girls' meet, Piper Thudium won the long jump with a leap 4.58 meters for 10 points and ran the third leg in each of the 4x100 (2nd in 58.1 - Payslie Alexander, Lexi Littrell, Reese Neal), 4x200 (3rd in 2:02.54 - Joceilynn Hoerrmann, Littrell, Neal) and 4x400 (4th in 5:12.78 - Rozlyn Severa, Madalynn Williams, Neal) - all season bests for 18 additional team points. Severa was 2nd in the 1600 (6:44.01) and 3rd in the 800 (2:59.59), both season bests and 14 individual points. Shayne Lumsden was second in the discus (21.22m) for eight points; Ugochi Chukwu was 3rd in discus (19.76m) for 6 points; and Littrell added another four points with a 4th in the 200 (31.2). Makenna Munsternan was 5th in the 400, and Madalynn Williams was 5th in shot, each tallying two points. The Bulldogs compete today in the Putnam County Relays. Story by: Dennis Hughes
