Welding I

​I. All students will demonstrate and apply appropriate safety practices.

  • All students will identify and demonstrate appropriate shop attire.

  • All students will demonstrate proper use of shop equipment.

  • All students will demonstrate awareness of safety zones and safety practices.

  • All students will effectively demonstrate how to keep their work area clean.

  • All students will apply equipment and supply preservation and maintenance.

II. All students will demonstrate skill necessary to find and earn employment.

  • All students will prepare a pre-employment resume.

  • All students will prepare a cover letter to be sent with resume.

  • All students will practice a mock interview.

III. All students will consistently demonstrate professional soft skills necessary to keep employment.

  • All students will be courteous to their classmates and instructor.

  • All students will demonstrate respect for peers and elders.

  • Students will demonstrate that they can stay on task until certified plates and projects are completed.

  • All students will display a proper work ethic and be responsible for their actions.

  • Student will attend class on a regular basis and be on time to those classes.

IV. All students will master the skill of operating the oxy-acetylene welder.

  • Students will demonstrate the proper setup and safety when using the equipment.

  • Students will demonstrate the proper handling and storage of gas cylinders.

  • Students will cut, weld, and form metal with the oxy-fuel equipment.

V. All students will master the skill of welding with the (SMAW) stick welder in flat and vertical positions.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of SMAW.

  • All students will use and maintain SMAW equipment.

  • All students will exhibit an understanding of SMAW consumables.

  • All students will perform fillet and groove welds on plates in flat and vertical positions.

VI. All students will master a basic understanding of welding symbols.

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of welding symbols by answering questions on test.

  • Students will look at blueprints with welding symbols and show they have an understanding of where to weld.

VII. All students will master operation of the plasma cutter.

  • All students will identify arc cutting process principles.

  • All students will properly use arc cutting equipment.

  • All students will cut materials with plasma cutters.

VIII. All students will master the basic TIG welding operations.

  • All students will explain the principles of TIG welding.

  • All students will use and maintain the GTAW equipment.

  • All students will exhibit an understanding of GTAW consumables.

  • All students will perform basic fillet and groove welds on steel in flat position.

IX. All students will master the basic MIG welding operations.

  • All students will explain the principles of GMAW MIG welding.

  • All students will use and maintain GMAW equipment.

  • All students will exhibit basic understanding of GMAW consumables.

  • All students will perform fillet and groove welds in all positions.

Welding II

  • All students will identify welding defects and/or discontinuities.

  • All students will test welds using various techniques.

  • All students will demonstrate proper and safe use of hand tools and power equipment.

  • All students will use standard measuring and layout tools.

  • All students will calculate material lists and costs.

VI. All students will master the skill of cutting out pieces for projects.

  • All students will cut and form metal with oxy-fuel and plasma arc equipment.

  • All students will prepare the welding area for proper welds.

  • All students will demonstrate the proper tracking and clamp for correct fit up.

VII. All students will master more advanced TIG welding operations.

  • All students will explain principles of GTAW.

  • All students will use and maintain GTAW equipment.

  • All students will exhibit understanding of GTAW consumables.

  • All students will perform fillet and groove welds on ferrous and nonferrous metals.

VIII. All students will master more advanced MIG  welding operations.

  • All students will explain principles of GMAW and FCAW.

  • All students will use and maintain GMAW & FCAW equipment.

  • All students will exhibit understanding of GMAW & FCAW consumables.

  • All students will perform fillet and groove welds on plate and various projects.

IX. All students will demonstrate the ability to use blueprints and sketches in the making of projects.

  • All students will interpret welding symbols.

  • All students will read and interpret to lay out materials.

  • All students will use sketches to make projects.

X. All students will demonstrate the ability to pass the plate certification test - flat and vertical during first year, horizontal and overhead during second year.

  • All students will lay out, cut and prep plates.

  • Students will weld and grind certification plates in all positions.

  • Students will bend test plates to determine the quality of the weld.
