Brookfield scored nine runs in the fourth inning and cruised to a 13-3 win against Glasgow in yesterday's varsity diamond action. It was the Bulldogs fifth victory in a row, and seventh win in the past eight games. The Bulldogs were held scoreless with just one hit in the first three innings, while the Yellow Jackets plated a run on a two-out RBI single in the 2nd. Brookfield came alive in the 4th. Three consecutive base hits scored one run, and four walks, an error, and a groundout led to six more runs. Riley Hinckle capped the scoring barrage, knocking in a pair with a single to center. The 'Dogs piled on in the 5th with a Bryson Shoop RBI sacrifice fly and error, and Peyton Parn followed three batters later with a bases clearing double to left, making the score 13-1. The Jackets scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth for the final margin. Hinckle (2 RBI) and Gage Ludington (RBI, 2B, 2 runs) each had two hits, while Peyton Parn (4 RBI, 2B, BB, run), Colton Parn (RBI, 2 runs), and Hank Parks (RBI, run) had a hit apiece. Bryson Shoop (2 runs) had two RBI, and Trayce Switzer (3 BB, run), and Garret Wood (run, SB) each added an RBI. Ryder Techau (BB) scored twice. Hinckle earned the win on the mound, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks over 4.1 innings. He had two strikeouts. Cooper Clarkson shot a pair of 85s, one in Monday's Lawson Invitational and the other in Tuesday's Grand River Conference Tournament, accumulating 16 pars in the process. He carded nine pars, including three in a row and five of six on the back nine of Lawson's par-72 Hidden Valley Golf Course. Clarkson had seven pars on Chillicothe's par-72 Green Hills Golf Course the next day. Lucky Poston shot a 109, Briar Montgomery a 110 and Jake Gladbach a 132 at Lawson. All three had a par for the Bulldogs, who finished 11th out of the 16 competing teams. Poston carded a 113, Montgomery a 129 and Gladbach a 131 at Chillicothe. The Bulldogs travel to Hannibal for today's CCC tournament. Blayde Lindsay carded a 119, and Cordray Baker and Matthew Taylor each shot 127 for  Brookfield's JV team at Monday's Marceline Open. ​Story by: Dennis Hughes

Brookfield won its sixth straight game, and 8th in the past nine, beating Highland, 9-3, in Friday night's varsity baseball action. ​The Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 first-inning lead when Colton Parn singled, stole second and scored on Trayce Switzer's single to right. The Cougars answered in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI double, but the 'Dogs scored twice with two outs in the top of the 2nd. Ryder Techau coaxed a walk, and Gage Ludington reached on an error. Techau later stole home, and Ludington scored on a passed ball. Mistakes again derailed the Cougars in the 4th. Riley Hinckle singled, Garret Wood walked and Techau reached on a bunt with no outs. Ludington's walk plated one run, and two passed balls scored two more for a Brookfield 6-1 lead. The Bulldogs added three more in the 6th with RBI base hits by Techau and Colton Parn. Parn added the 9th run on an error. Highland scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 6th, but catcher Garret Wood ended the frame, gunning down an attempted steal at third. A double play ended the 'Dogs bases-loaded threat in the top of the 7th, but Hinckle pitched a clean bottom of the frame to end the game. Colton Parn (RBI, 2 runs, BB, SB), Switzer (RBI, SB), Hinckle (run) and Wood (2 runs, BB, SB) each had two hits, while Techau collected three runs, three stolen bases, two walks, an RBI and a hit. Ludington had an RBI, run, and walk; Bryson Shoop had a walk, and Xavier Sada had a stolen base. Wood started on the mound, allowing an earned run on three hits and two walks over three innings, and Colton Parn tossed another three frames, allowing no earned runs on one hit and three free passes. Lewis DeFries, Ryder Cochenour and Deacon Brown each captured two medals at Friday's CCC Middle School Track & Field Meet at Highland. DeFries was 2nd in the 1600 in a personal record of 5:29.17, while Cochenour was 3rd in the 400 in a PR of 59.87, and Brown was 3rd in the triple jump (10.28m). John Foster joined the double medalists in the 4x400 relay team, which finished 3rd in a PR time of 4:14.81. Vann Duncan was 4th in the 100 hurdles and pole vault, and Brown was 5th in the long jump. Foster (6th - 400, 1:02.85) and DeFries (6th - 800, 2:32.36) were top-10 finishers with PRs, and Foster (100, 13.74), Duncan (200, 27.98), Eli Yates (100 hurdles, 20.14) and Aiden Glasgow (Shot, 9.88m) each also set PRs in their respective events. Cochenour 8th - 100) and Ronnie Sharp (9th - High Jump) finished in the top 10. In the girls meet, Taryn Montgomery was 5th in discus with a PR of 22.75 meters, while the 4x200 relay team (Holly Sensenich, Lexi Littrell, Madalynn Willimas , Reese Neal) also finished 5th in a PR of 2:01. Rozlyn Severa (7th - 1600, 6:38.15), Littrell (8th - 200, 29.66) and Madalynn Williams (10th - Triple Jump, 8.30m) collected top-10 finishes while setting PRs. Severa (10th - 800) and Shayne Lumsden (7th - Shot) also finished in the top 10, while Joceilynn Hoerrmann (100, 14.98), Williams (400, 1:14.19), Natalie Lovenduski (1600, 6:51.39), Abby Rollison (100 Hurdles, 20.99) and Jovie Staddie (100 Hurdles, 21.06) set PRs. Clara Hoyt, Jayden Keller and Kylin King qualified for sectionals in Saturday's Class 2 District 3 track and field meet at Monroe City. Hoyt qualified with a 3rd (13:33.50) in the 3200-meter run, and a 4th (6:13.66) in the 1600. Keller was third with a season-best 28.25 in the 200-meter dash, and King followed in 4th in 28.39. Maggie Bennett was 5th in a season-best 17.98 in the 100 hurdles, just missing out on a top-four finish to qualify for sectionals. King was 6th in the 400, and Breckin Thudium, was 10th in the discus. Molly Cross (100 hurdles, 19.8), Lilly Lindsay (Shot Put, 7.73m), and the 4x200 (1:56.95) and 4x400 (4:35.74) relay teams scored season bests. Bridger Grimshaw was 6th in the 300 hurdles (46.71) and 6th in the pole vault (3.25m), Kameron Perry was 7th in the 400 with a season-best 56.07, and Ekene Chukwu was 10th in discus (35.21m) for the Bulldogs' boys. The 4x200 relay team finished 10th in a season-best 1:40.25, while Calvin Varner ran the 1600 in a season-best 5:37.51. Brookfield's Cooper Clarkson collected eight pars, firing an 83 in Friday's Class 2 District 4 Golf Tournament at the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Lawson. ​Clarkson got hot on the back nine of the par-72 course, rolling in six pars for a 39. Clarkson's sizzling finish propelled him to All-District honors and a spot in the Class 2 State Golf Championships at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithfield. The two-day event begins on May 13th. Clark County scored early and often, ending Brookfield's six-game winning streak, 12-3, in Monday's Clarence Cannon Conference title game. The Bulldogs would have secured co-champion honors with a victory against the talented Indians. The Indians jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead, but Colton Parn's two-out, two run single to left drew the Bulldogs to within 3-2. Clark County added a home run in the bottom of the second and then blew the game open with six runs in the third. Colton Parn led the 'Dogs with two hits and two RBI, while Trayce Switzer (BB), Peyton Parn (BB), Hank Parks (run) and Riley Hinckle (HBP) each had a hit. Gage Ludington (RBI, 2 BB) and Ryder Techau (BB, SB) both scored a run. Brookfield shrugged off its defeat in the CCC title game, knocking off Lexington, 5-3, in the opening round of the Class 3 District 15 baseball tournament. The Bulldogs (9-9) will play top-seeded and tournament host Lawson this evening at 5:00. Lexington threatened in the 1st inning with two base runners and only one out. However, starting pitcher Colton Parn induced a groundout and struck out the next batter to end the inning. Parn then led off the bottom of the frame with a double to left, and Peyton Parn followed one-out later with an RBI double to left. The Bulldogs added another run in the 2nd when Garret Wood walked with one out, stole second and went to third on back-to-back walks to Ryder Techau and Gage Ludington. Bryson Shoop followed with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Wood. The Minutemen scored two unearned runs with two outs in the third, tying the game at 2-2. Riley Hinckle led off the 4th with a double to right, and scored on Techau's one-out double to center. Techau later scored on a two-out ground ball error, giving Brookfield a 4-2 lead. The Minutemen loaded the bases in the 6th with a walk, bookended by a pair of singles. But Colton Parn picked off the runner at second, induced an RBI groundout and fanned the final batter to limit the damage to one run. The 'Dogs tacked on a run in the bottom of the 6th. Wood singled to center, and infield singles by Ludington and Colton Parn laoded the bases with two outs. Switzer coaxed a walk to force Wood home with a 5-3 lead. Peyton Parn relieved winning pitcher Colton Parn in the 7th, pitching a scoreless frame for the save. Colton Parn (2B, run, HBP, SB) led the Bulldogs with two hits, while Peyton Parn (2B, RBI), Hinckle (2B), Wood (2 runs, BB, SB), Techau (2B, RBI, run, BB) and Ludington (BB) each collected a hit. Switzer recorded an RBI, walk and stolen base; Shoop had an RBI, Xavier Sada scored a run, and Hank Parks swiped a bag. ​Colton Parn pitched a solid six innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits and five walks. Clara Hoyt raced to a 4th-place finish in the 3200-meter run, qualifying for this weekend's Class 2 State Championship. Hoyt finished in 13:33.84. She also ran 7th in the 1600 with a time of 6:21.54. ​Kylin King was 6th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 28:09. Story by: Dennis Hughes

Brookfield's baseball season came to an end with its 5-0 loss to Lawson in Friday's semifinal action of the Class 3 District 15 baseball tournament. The defeat ended a season which saw the Bulldogs rebound from an 0-7 start, winning nine of their next 12 games. Lawson was paced with timely hitting and dominant pitching. A two-out, two-run home run to left center in the 1st inning staked the Cardinals to a 2-0 lead. However, starting pitcher Riley Hinckle settled in, keeping the game close through the 4th inning. But the Bulldogs could muster just three base runners and one hit in the first five innings, while the Cardinals extended their lead with three runs in the bottom of 5th. The 'Dogs managed two base runners with one out in the 6th, but they were left stranded. They loaded the bases with one out in the 7th, but a double play ended the threat. Peyton Parn, Garret Wood and Gage Ludington each recorded a hit, and Colton Parn, Trayce Switzer and Xavier Sada reached on walks. Hinckle allowed just four earned runs while scattering seven hits and four walks. He struck out two. The Bulldogs finished the season at 9-10. Story by: Dennis Hughes

Cooper Clarkson regrouped after a rough opening round, firing one of the lowest rounds on the second day to finish in top third of the field at the MSHSAA Class 2 State Boys Golf Championship. Clarkson followed a 95 on Day 1 with a final round of 80 to finish in a tie for 31st in the field of 92 golfers. Only six golfers bettered the junior's second-round score over the par-72 course at Smithville's Paradise Pointe Golf Complex. ​Story by: Dennis Hughes
