Maggie Bennett and Kierstyn Sutch placed third and fourth, respectively, at the Class 1, District 3 Golf Championships . Bennett carded a 94, and Sutch shot a 96 on the par 70 course at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly, qualifying the duo for the Class 1 State Tournament. Lexi Littrell shot a 117, and Riley Howell and Madalynn Williams each carded a 119, assisting the Lady Dogs to a tie for third in the team results. Story by Dennis Hughes
- Grand Golfers Glow at GRC
Maggie Bennett and Kierstyn Sutch continued their dominant play, guiding Brookfield to a second-place team finish in the Grand River Conference golf tournament. Bennett finished second with a score of 93, and Sutch was a stroke behind in third with a 94. Brookfield lost a pair of matches to formidable teams, falling to both North Calloway and Plattsburg in straight sets. Emma Meyer collected nine digs, three kills and two assists, and Brylie Plagman had four kills and four digs to pace the Lady Dogs against North Callaway. Kyliah Galloway had nine digs, and Selena Curiel had eight digs. Shayne Lumsden had two kills, two digs and an assist; Chezni Renshaw had three assists and a dig; and Avery Garr added a kill and two assists. Shayne Lumsden led the Lady Dogs with seven digs, three kills, two aces and a block, and Emma Meyer had five digs, three kills and three assists against Plattsburg. Kyliah Galloway (5 digs), Brylie Plagman (3 digs) and Selena Curiel (dig) each had a kill, while Avery Garr added two assists and two digs, and Chezni Renshaw and Hailey Eichler each had an assist. Brookfield also lost JV volleyball matches to North Callaway and Plattsburg. Mallory Black collected two service points with an ace and a kill, and Andi Przyblyski added a kill, ace and dig to lead the Lady Dogs against North Callaway. Hadlye Sackrey drove in four runs and scored three, leading Brookfield to a 10-0 win against Milan. Sackrey had a single, double and worked a walk in the rout. Mya Sackrey (2 BB) also scored three runs, including a solo, inside-the-park home run - her fourth HR of the season. Gracyn Beckman (1B, 2 SB, run) collected two RBI, and Ashlyn Calvert and Kaecen Brown each had a base hit and RBI. Greenlee McCollum singled and scored twice, and Emree Littrell cracked a double and scored a run. Emma Sensenich added a single, and Austin Lewis coaxed a walk for the Lady Dogs (15-6). Remi Berger's RBI single, and Gracie Daller's two-run double fueled a three-run fourth inning, as the JV Lady Dogs completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory. Berger added a second base hit and scored two runs. Piper Thudium collected a single, RBI, a walk, a stolen base and scored two runs, while Lily Willis had a double, RBI and scored twice, and Reese Neal had a base hit and RBI. Brookfield blanked Knox County and clipped Canton en route to capturing second place in the Schuyler Varsity Softball Tournament. Two six-run innings paved the way for the Lady Dogs in their 12-0 win against Knox County. Ashlyn Calvert collected a double, run and two RBI, while Emree Littrell (1B, 2B), Hadlye Sackrey (1B, 2 BB, SB), Kylin King (1B, 2B, SB) and Emma Sensenich (2B, BB) each recorded an RBI and scored two runs, and Greenlee McCollum (HBP) added an RBI and a run. Mya Sackrey had three walks, three stolen bases and a run scored; Austin Lewis walked and scored a run; and Gracyn Beckman chipped in an RBI for the 'Dogs, who limited the Eagles to four base runners. Hadlye Sackrey collected three singles, two stolen bases and scored twice, and Greenlee McCollum knocked in a pair of runs, singled and walked to lead the Lady Dogs in their 5-2 win against Canton. Ashlyn Calvert (run) and Kaecen Brown each drove in a run, and Emma Sensenich and Austin Lewis (BB) each had a single and a run scored. Gracyn Beckman had a base knock, and Mya Sackrey drew a walk. The Lady Dogs fell, 9-2, in what was determined to be the championship game. - North Platte Volleyball Invitational
Though competitive throughout each match, Brookfield lost to Maysville, North Platte and Penney in the North Platte Invitational Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs went the distance in the consolation match against Penney, but came up short. Brylie Plagman collected a team-high 10 kills and had 14 digs, four serving aces and an assist, while Emma Meyer recorded 16 digs, five aces, four assists and two kills, and Selena Curiel also had 16 digs, led the team with six assists and had three aces and a kill in the tournament. Shayne Lumsden led the 'Dogs with six aces and had eight kills, nine digs, an assist and a block; Chezni Renshaw had 11 digs, four assists, three aces and two kills; Avery Garr also had 11 digs, two assists and an ace; Kyliah Galloway had six kills, seven digs and three assists; and Hailey Eichler had 11 digs and an ace. - Bulldogs Roll Again
Kendrell Carter scored four touchdowns, and Trayce Switzer tossed a pair of TDs and scored one of his own, as Brookfield blasted Gallatin, 52-0, in varsity football. Carter rushed for 158 yards on 13 carries and scored three TDs, while adding another score on a 59-yard pass reception. Switzer passed for 180 yards and two TDs and added a 15-yard scoring scamper. He also picked off three passes, tying the school record for single-game interceptions (with three others). Another school record was set, as Peyton Parn broke Seth Speichinger's career receiving yards mark of 1,916 yards. Parn caught three passes for 74 yards and a TD. Phoenix Jordan had three receptions for 22 yards and a TD for the Bulldogs. Cooper Holland collected six tackles, leading the way for a 'Dogs' defense, which pitched its third shutout of the season. Devan Parn had 5.5 tackles, three for loss, and Gabe Leonard had 4.5 tackles, two for loss. Lucky Poston recorded five tackles, and Siope Pulu and Peyton Parn each had four tackles. Alex Bennett came off the bench to make 3.5 tackles. Devan Norman and Aidden Buckner each had a sack. - Lady Dogs Rock Rams
Brookfield plated five runs in both the 4th and 7th innings, cruising to a 12-2 win against Schuyler County in softball action. Emree Littrell recorded an RBI double, a two-run single and scored two runs, and Ashlyn Calvert had three hits, including a pair of RBI singles to lead the Lady Dogs. Mya Sackrey (RBI base hit, BB), Kaecen Brown (2 1B, BB, SB), Greenlee McCollum (2 BB, SB) and Emma Sensenich (1B, 2 BB,2 SB) each scored two runs. Austin Lewis had a single, two stolen bases and a run, and Lily Willis added stolen base and a run for the Lady Dogs (12-5). The JV Lady Dogs scored three runs, rallying from a two-run deficit to complete the sweep, 5-4. Gracie Daller collected a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored, Remi Berger had an RBI double and run scored, and Taryn Montgomery had an RBI sac fly to pace the 'Dogs. - Bulldogs Cross Country
Clara Hoyt and Calvin Varner were Brookfield's top runners at the Moberly Cross Country Invitational. Hoyt was 35th in a field of 84 varsity girls, covering the challenging and rolling 5000-meter course in 25:55.47. Varner crossed the line in 22:16.24, 64th in the boys 5K field of 105 runners. Megan LaBelle finished in a time of 34:05.25 in the girls race, and Landon Stifflebean came home in 29:36.86 in the boys 5K. Rozlyn Severa and Trace Knowles captured top-20 finishes in the 2500-meter race. Severa was 18th (out of 101 runners) in 14:20.31, and Knowles was 17th (out of 129 runners) in a time of 12:55.55. - Lady Dogs Win Brookfield Invitational
Maggie Bennett captured gold, and Kierstyn Sutch joined her atop the podium in third, as the dynamic duo led Brookfield to a team victory at the Brookfield Invitational. Bennett fired an 88 on the par-72 Brookfield Country Club course, while Sutch carded a 98 for the Lady Dogs, who won the team title with a 424 in the 12-team field.
