- Bulldogs Pummel Panthers
Brookfield broke open a close contest with a big third quarter, cruising past Polo, 54-20, in front of a large homecoming crowd at Burlington Field. Trayce Switzer was 6-of-13 for 183 yards and three touchdowns passing and rushed for 51 yards and another score to pace the Bulldogs, who remain undefeated (4-0). Coldon Parrent and Kendrell Carter each scored a TD on 11 carries, while gaining 158 and 116 yards, respectively. Peyton Parn added a pair of TDs and 108 yards on four catches. The 'Dogs started quickly, as Carter scored on a short plunge following a 39-yard run, and Switzer scored from 29 yards out, giving Brookfield a 14-0 lead. The Panthers responded with a pair of scores to tie the game at 14-14, but Switzer hit Hayden DeJong with a 66-yard catch and run, putting the Bulldogs back up, 22-14. Polo managed to drive inside the Bulldogs' 3-yard line, but were unable to score before the first half expired. However, the Panthers capitalized on an interception on the first play from scrimmage in the second half and scored to draw within 22-20. But the momentum quickly shifted back to the 'Dogs, as they scored four consecutive third-quarter TDs. Following a Devan Parn rushing score, homecoming king Siope Pulu forced a fumble with a sack and recovered the football deep in Panthers' territory. Parrent took advantage of the miscue with a 15-yard scamper, and Devan Parn added another TD with a 32-yard interception return. Peyton Parn capped the third quarter barrage with a 22-yard TD reception. Within just minutes, Brookfield was on top, 46-20. Peyton Parn added another TD in the fourth quarter for the final margin. The defense, which yielded very little in the second half, was led by Peyton Parn, who collected 7.5 tackles. Lucky Poston and Cooper Holland each had six tackles, and Gabe Leonard had five. Devan Parn recorded 3.5 tackles and 4 quarterback hurries to go along with his pick 6, while Aidden Buckner also had 3.5 tackles (1 for a loss) and 4 QB hurries. - Lady Dogs Sweep Podium
Maggie Bennett captured medalist honors with the low round in a varsity golf tri-match with Marceline and Putnam County. Bennett, still recovering from an illness earlier in the week, shot a 50, with two pars, at the Brookfield Country Club's par-37 front nine. The Lady Bulldogs also garnered the next two spots, as Kierstyn Sutch carded a 52 with two pars, and Riley Howell shot a 54 to finish 2nd and 3rd, respectively. - Tigers Tame 'Dogs
Marceline snapped Brookfield's four-game winning streak with a 7-3 win in varsity softball. The Tigers scored two runs in the 1st inning, three more in the 4th and another in the 5th to lead 6-0. The Lady Dogs, who were held in check for much of the game, cut the margin in half with three runs in the 6th inning, capped by a two-run double by Gracyn Beckman, who then scored on an RBI by Ashlyn Calvert (1B). The Tigers tacked on a run in the bottom of the 6th and quickly dispatched the Bulldogs in the 7th. Greenlee McCollum, Kylin King, Mya Sackrey (BB), Hadlye Sackrey (run) and Emree Littrell (BB, run) each collected a hit, and Austin Lewis added a walk and stolen base. Tylynn Almond produced a sacrifice bunt for the Lady Dogs (6-3). Holly Sensenich knocked in four runs, guiding the Lady Dogs to 6-1 win in the JV contest. Sensenich (1B, 2B) collected two hits, while Reese Neal (1B, 2B, RBI, 2 runs) and Remi Berger (2 1B, run) also had a pair of hits each. - Sutch Shines at Westran
Fueled by five pars, Kierstyn Sutch fired a 94, finishing in a tie for 7th at the Westran Invitational. The Brookfield sophomore was awarded 8th based on a tiebreaker. Sutch parred the final two holes on the difficult Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly. An ailing Maggie Bennett soldiered through the rolling terrain, carding a 98 with four pars and tying for 11th in a talented 86-player field. "Maggie was miserable all day, but kept going," Coach Rachel Hays said. "It was a hilly course, and I am proud of all of them." Lexi Littrell shot a 118 with two pars, while Riley Howell shot 120 and Madalynn Williams carded a 130 for the Lady Dogs, who finished 7th (18 teams) with a team score of 430. Story by Dennis Hughes

Brookfield fell to Carrollton, 25-11, 25-15, 25-6, in varsity volleyball play. Hailey Eichler paced the Lady Dogs with three assists, three digs and two kills, and Brylie Plagman collected two kills, two digs, an assist and a block. Selena Curiel recorded a team-high seven digs, and Kyliah Galloway added six digs. Emma Meyer had a kill and an ace; Shayne Lumsden had a kill and a dig; and Rylee White had an assist. The Lady Bulldogs also lost in the JV game, 25-5, 25-17. Natalie Hedrick and Andi Przybylski each had a service point and a kill, while Mallory Black had an assist and a point. - Bennett Tops Leaderboard Again
Maggie Bennett captured individual honors, winning the gold medal in the Smith-Cotton Classic Class 1 & 2 Golf Tournament. Bennett carded a 91 on the par-70 Sedalia Country Club course. Her round included a birdie on the par-3 10th and two pars. Kierstyn Sutch also medaled, shooting a 97 and finishing in 5th place. She collected three pars during her round. - Bulldogs Cross Country
Sam Sharp and Calvin Varner raced to top-10 finishes in their respective divisions at the Father Tolton Cross Country Invitational in Columbia. Sharp was 2nd in the varsity girls event, covering the 5000-meter course in 19:29.92, while Varner ran the same distance in the JV Boys division, placing 9th in 20:53.06. Clara Hoyt posted a 22:33.09 (29th) in the varsity race. Landon Stufflebean recorded a 26:00.82 (59th), and Meghan LaBelle ran a 30:42.19 (33rd) in their respective JV races. Brookfield fell in straight sets to Lawson, Kirksville and Bishop LeBlond in volleyball tournament action at Chillicothe. Emma Meyer paced the Lady Bulldogs with 6 kills, 5 digs and an assist, while Kasey Perry recorded 7 assists, 4 service points with an ace and 3 digs. Brylie Plagman collected 8 digs, 3 kills and an ace; Kyliah Galloway had 3 points with an ace and 2 kills; Shayne Lumsden had 3 points with an ace, 3 digs, a kill and an assist; Hailey Eichler had 2 digs and an assist, and Chezni Renshaw and Avery Garr each added a dig. - Hadlye Sackrey, 'Dogs Sock Trenton
Hadlye Sackrey hammered a two-out, three-run home run, guiding Brookfield past Trenton, 3-2, in Thursday night's varsity softball tilt. Trenton plated a pair of runs in the first inning, taking a 2-0 lead into the home half of the third. With one out, Mya Sackrey (1B) bunted for a base hit, and Tylynn Almond (BB, run) followed with a walk. Emree Littrell (1B, HBP, run) laced a single, but Sackrey was thrown out at the plate for the second out. Trenton's joy soon turned to dismay however, as Hadlye Sackrey's second home run of the young season prompted a buzz of elation and motivation in the Brookfield dugout and a 3-2 lead the 'Dogs would not relinquish. Solid pitching by both squads took over, though Trenton threatened in the 6th, loading the bases with one out. Brookfield got the next two outs and then set Trenton down in order in the 7th. Ashlynn Calvert reached base twice with a single and a walk, and Greenlee McCollum worked a walk for the Lady Dogs (6-2), who won their fourth straight game and third in the past four days. They beat Penney, 8-4, on Monday. Brookfield completed the sweep with a 6-1 win in the JV game, snapping a 1-1 tie with a five-run 4th-inning outburst. Milee McCollum (1B, run) and Holly Sensenich (3B, BB, 2 runs) each drove in two runs to key the rally. Gracie Daller, Lily Willis and Abby Rollison spearheaded the parade, each collecting a base hit and a run. Trayce Switzer accounted for five touchdowns, as Brookfield scored early and often en route to a 62-0 victory against Highland. Switzer passed for 164 yards and three scores on six completions (7 attempts) and ran for another 54 yards and two TDs for the Bulldogs, who scored eight offensive touchdowns and gained 435 total yards in just 26 plays. They added a ninth TD on special teams. Peyton Parn also had a big night with five receptions for 135 yards and two TDs. He collected four tackles, two fumbles and returned a blocked punt for another TD. Phoenix Jordan and Coldon Parrent each gained 68 and 64 yards, respectively, and both scored on long runs. Devan Parn added a 1-yard TD plunge. Siope Pulu hauled in a 29-yard pass for a score. Workhorse Kendrell Carter saw limited action in the blowout, but still rushed for 62 yards. Lucky Poston paced the 'Dogs defense, which pitched its second shutout in consecutive weeks, with five tackles, two for loss. Gabe Leonard (2 TFL) and Cooper Holland (1 TFL) each recorded 4.5 tackles, while Parrent (1 TFL) and Devan Parn (1 TFL) added four and 3.5 tackles, respectively. Devan Parn and Ryder Techau also had an interception apiece. The Bulldogs, who have started the season 3-0 for the first time since 2015, welcome Polo for Friday's homecoming tilt. Brookfield won its third straight game, rallying to beat Macon, 5-4, in Tuesday's varsity softball action. Macon scored twice in the bottom of the 6th, taking a 4-3 lead, but the Bulldogs would answer in the top of the 7th. Tylynn Almond (1B, BB, 2 runs) and Emree Littrell (2 hits, 2B, 2 runs) reached on one-out base hits, and two-out RBI singles by Gracyn Beckman (1B, RBI, SB) and Ashlyn Calvert (2 hits, RBI, run, SB) gave the 'Dogs the lead back. The Tigers made it interesting, loading the bases in the bottom of the frame, but the Bulldogs extinguished the rally attempt. Mya Sackrey (RBI, SB) and Greenlee McCollum (2B) each collected two hits, and Hadlye Sackrey (Sac Bunt, BB) added an RBI for the Lady Bulldogs (5-2). Story by: Dennis Hughes

Maggie Bennett and Kierstyn Sutch paired to take medalist honors at Wednesday's Paris Scramble golf tournament. Playing a best-ball format, the dynamic duo combined to fire a four-over par 76 on the Mark Twain Country Club course, three strokes clear of the next pair. There were 40 pairings. Brookfield finished in a tie for second in the team results with a team total of 170 in the 14-team field. Riley Howell and Lexi Littrell carded a 94, finishing 20th, and Madalynn Williams paired with a Fayette golfer to shoot a 109, finishing 31st and tops in the mixed team results.
