A+ Information
A+ (A Plus) Program
The primary goal of the Brookfield A+ Schools Program is to ensure that all students who graduate from Missouri high schools are well prepared to pursue advanced education and employment. Students who graduate from a designated A+ high school may qualify for a state-paid financial incentive to attend any public community college or career/technical school in Missouri if the students successfully meet the following requirements:
Each year there is always a possible reduction in the amount of A+ money available to each eligible student. That reduction could be as much as only paying for eight college hours a semester instead of the previous twelve hours it covered. Even with this possible reduction, the A+ program is still an excellent way to get the majority of tuition paid for that first couple of years of college and community college or technical school. Also, see below the section entitled "Are there Benefits in Being an A+ Student?"
- Enter into a written agreement with Brookfield High School prior to graduation.
- Graduate with an overall Non-Weighted GPA of 2.5 points or higher on a 4-point scale.
- Have an overall attendance rate of at least 95 percent for grades 9-12.
- Perform 50 hours of district-supervised, unpaid tutoring or mentoring.
- Maintain a record of good citizenship and avoid the use of drugs and alcohol.
- Achieve Proficient or Advanced Level on the Algebra I End of Course Exam or attain a Math subscore of at least a 17 on the ACT test (composite score doesn't effect this) or attain a certain GPA/ACT Math Subscore combination pre-set by the State of MO.
- Make a documented, good faith effort to first secure all available federal financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that does not require repayment.
- Register for Selective Services, if applicable

A+ (A Plus) Tutoring/Mentoring Program during School Hours:
Seniors and Juniors are eligible to sign up for the A+ Tutoring/Mentoring class that will allow them to complete most, if not all, of their 50 hours of tutoring/mentoring during the school day. Under a teacher's supervision, A+ students are assigned to classrooms where they will be working directly with students on academics and any other area that would allow for a tutoring/mentoring process to occur. Students must turn in their hours EVERY QUARTER in order to obtain credit. The A+ Tutoring Mentoring Program is designed to assist students obtaining their tutorial hours to meet their A+ requirements.
HOW DO YOU BECOME AN A+ (A Plus) STUDENT?
- It is easy to become a part of the A+ Schools Program. Simply read the citizen guidelines and complete the Brookfield High School A+ Schools Program Agreement. It is recommended that students sign up early in their high school careers, ideally as Freshmen. This allows students to work on and complete the above-listed A+ requirements. It also allows the A+ coordinator (Cathy Carlson, Guidance Counselor) to monitor the students’ GPA, attendance and other eligibility factors.
- It is also recommended that students enroll in the A+ Schools Program even if they plan to attend a four-year college or enter the workforce rather than attend college. The A+ Program is an opportunity to access additional education after high school; it does not obligate them to use the A+ tuition reimbursement. All A+ benefits are available to A+ graduates up to four (4) years after high school graduation or for six semesters.
